Social Security is Complicated

Posted by John Sweeney | Sep 01, 2017 | 0 Comments

Bottom line, you will use your Social Security and it will be meaningful to you. However, it was not designed to be your primary source of income in retirement.  Your average life expectancy at 65 is about 20 years, longer if you are in good shape, highly educated and with high income.

Social Security is more complicated than you think.  Figuring out how to maximize the amount you will receive is difficult.  While simple in theory it is complicated in application.

You have to decide when to start taking it.  Your age changes the benefits dramatically.  In addition, whether you are working or not is important because it can cause you to lose benefits.

Moreover, you need to make sure you maximize the benefits for your spouse too.

Make sure you understand the rules or get a good adviser to help you through the maze.
