The IRS is going to start using private debt collectors to pursue overdue taxes.
This is probably not a good development. The collection efforts have a tendency to t disproportionately impact low-income, senior, and vulnerable taxpayers,
The private collectors can be very invasive and use difficult tactics. Some don’t have a good reputation. They can call your home. In addition, it will open the door to scammers who are already having a field day with refunds and overdue taxes.
